Library Friends Holds Summer Used Book Sale July 25th

The Friends of the Danville Public Library will hold its Summer Used Book Sale on Saturday, July 25, at the Danville Public Library.  The book sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the first floor meeting room of the library, located at 319 N. Vermilion Street.  The sale includes books for children and adults, magazines, collectible books, and audiovisual materials.

Volunteers interested in helping with the set-up on Friday, July 24, or the sale on July 25, may sign up at the library’s Checkout Desk or call the library at 477-5220.  Volunteers will receive one free book for every hour worked.

IREAD participation certificates

St. Joseph Township Library (SJN) has 50+ extra IREAD participation certificates.  If you are interested in them, email Susan McKinney stjosephtownshiplibrary@gmail.com.

Reading program Continues and a Live Action Board Game Came to St. Joseph Library

It's not too late to join in the fun! Saturday July 11th is the last day for teens grades 5th-12th to turn in their sheets for the teen reading program. Adults you still have time to get your 10 books read for the grand prize drawing! Your deadline is August 21st. If you have any questions please call the library at (217) 469-2159.

Ogden Library to Kick Off Program July 20

The Ogden Rose Public Library will offer a week-long summer reading program, "Read on the Wild Side!" The program will be held 1 to 3 p.m. from July 20 through July 24 and will include reading, games, crafts and a reading contest. All ages are welcome. Participants should register at the library. Silly Safari at Marshall Public Library!

Silly Do you want to get really close to some amazing reptiles, mammals, birds and bugs?  Would you like to touch some of your favorites?  Then join us on a Silly Safari at Marshall Public Library!  It will be a high-energy and zany theatrical performance for children of all ages!  Children and volunteers join in games and various fun activities. The fun starts on Friday, July 17th, at 11:00 AM. Please call the library at 217/826-2535 or stop in to register.  Please allow 48 hours notice for special arrangements.  The Friends of Marshall Public Library have generously sponsored this program.

Danville Library Plans Costume party

Keep your child reading this summer and fall by reading for the library.

The library’s annual read-a-thon will be Sept. 8-12.

Stop by the Danville Public Library, 319 N. Vermilion St., and pick up a sponsor form, have your child get sponsors for their reading minutes, and help raise money for new books at the library.

Watseka Public Library receives award

Watseka Public Library staff was presented the Watseka Area Chamber of Commerce Staff Achievement Award in May.  This award was presented in recognition of Watseka Public Library staff''s dedication, accomplishments, and exceptional contributions to customer satisfaction.  Staff were treated to an award dinner and received a plaque which is on display in the library. Congratulations to Kim Zumwalt, Director, and the library staff!

Nanette Donohue Elected to American Library Association Council

Nanette_donohue_cpl_7_09 Champaign Public Library's Nanette Donohue was elected to the American Library Association (ALA) Council. Her three-year term as councilor-at-large starts July 16.  The Council is the top governing body for ALA, the world's oldest and largest library association. As the library's technical services manager, Donohue manages the cataloging, preparation, and inventory control of all library materials. She joined the library staff in 2003.

Mike Rogalla Named to Notable Children's Books Committee

Mike_rogalla_cpl_7_09 Champaign Public Library children's librarian Mike Rogalla has been chosen to serve a two-year term on the American Library Association's Notable Children's Books Committee.  Rogalla and 10 other selectors from across the country are charged with identifying the best books published in the U.S. this year and next, for children up to age 14.  So far, Rogalla has received about 700 books from publishers seeking notable status for their titles. He expects about 1,800 by the end of the year. All will be added to the library's collection. Committee members review and nominate titles throughout the year; about 60 to 80 books will make the final list. Rogalla has been with the library since 1993.

Kids go to the Wild Side at Homer Library

Stacey Clementz shows participants in the Homer Library Reading program a box turtle. Clementz brought animals to the library on June 8 to show the children. Clementz visit was to kick off the library's reading program. The program is open to all children entering kindergarten through fifth grade.
