Danville Public Genealogy Project

Danville Public Library is collecting genealogical materials and oral histories as part of an innovative project called "Pardon Me, Brother".  The project aims to document the rich African-American history of the city.

The library is asking area residents from the black community to bring family and organizational histories, documents and photographs to the library, where they will be copied and made part of the library's local history collection.  People will also be able to record oral histories at the library.

The library's African-American Family History Day program, organized by library staffer Jacqueline Woodard-Smith, will be Saturday, August 30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
