The Danville Public Library is holding a drawing for two free tickets to the Danville Symphony Orchestra’s May 9 concert, “With Strings Attached”, featuring Buddy Wachter on the banjo.
The drawing will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6. Tickets are provided compliments of the Danville Symphony Orchestra. Entry forms are available at the Checkout Desk on the first floor of the library.
The Danville Symphony Orchestra season concludes with unexpected displays of virtuosity from an unlikely source, the banjo. The program includes Buddy Wachter and the DSO musicians playing waltzes, marches, rags, dances, Broadway tunes and a duet with DSO concertmaster, Margaret Dugdale. Selections include “Overture to Russlan and Ludmilla” by Glinka; “Concerto for Two Violins in A Minor” (with banjo) by Vivaldi; “La Bacchanale” by Saint-Saens; “Dance of the Comedians” by Smetana; “Tiger Rag”; and “Stephen Foster Tribute”.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Danville High School Auditorium and is sponsored by First National Bank of Danville/Westville. Maestro Jeremy Swerling will present “Moments with the Maestro” at 6:45 p.m. in the DHS auditorium lobby.
