John Dreher, Community Development Manager with the City of Danville, will present “What’s all the fuss about lead?” on Wednesday, May 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the first floor Meeting Room of the Danville Public Library. Dreher is also an Illinois licensed lead risk assessor (Lic. #L-008111). He will bring equipment to demonstrate how lead levels are determined. Participants may bring an item to be tested as part of the demonstration.

The Danville Public Library is holding a drawing for two free tickets to the Danville Symphony Orchestra’s May 9 concert, “With Strings Attached”, featuring Buddy Wachter on the banjo.
The drawing will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6. Tickets are provided compliments of the Danville Symphony Orchestra. Entry forms are available at the Checkout Desk on the first floor of the library.

Kevin R. Young will present a program on “Lincoln and Cinco de Mayo” on Wednesday, April 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the first floor Meeting Room of the Danville Public Library. The program is free.
On the 5th of May 1862, Mexican soldiers under General Ignacio Zaragoza defeated Napoleon III’s French forces at the battle of Puebla. This Mexican victory was the start of a long conflict by Mexican president Benito Juarez to stop the French occupation of Mexico and to defeat the puppet government of Maximilian I.

Local comic book collector David Laker will present “Catch All the Action!: A Celebration of the Great American Comic Book” at the Danville Public Library on Saturday, April 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. The free program will be held in the first floor Meeting Room and is sponsored by the Danville Public Library Teen Advisory Board. The program is open to all ages.

People tend to say “the book was better than the movie,” but is this necessarily true? Find out with Great Books to Great Films, an original book/movie discussion series presented monthly at the Danville Public Library from May 2009 to April 2010.
Each month, participants will read a classic novel and view an acclaimed film adaptation of that book. A discussion will follow each film screening.

Local poet Yolanda S. Duckworth will help the Danville Public Library celebrate National Library Week and National Poetry Month with a book signing on Saturday, April 18. From 2 to 4 p.m., Ms. Duckworth will have copies of her latest book of poems, Poetry for Ducks, for sale and autographing. She will be located at a table across from the Checkout Desk on the first floor.
Ms. Duckworth lives in Danville and attended Danville Area Community College. She’s currently studying for a bachelor’s degree through Eastern Illinois University. She is the mother of four children and aspires to own her own business.
