The Danville Public Library will be hosting a magnifier evaluation session for Danville residents on Tuesday, May 12, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the second floor Conference Room. A generous donation to the Danville Library Foundation from Dr. Angelo and Mrs. Alberta Anaclerio is making it possible for vision-challenged readers to check out magnifiers that are stronger than what is commonly found in stores.
Dr. Shawn Mallady from Chittick Family Eye Care will assist people in selecting the right magnifier for their needs. The magnifiers will be purchased, and the patrons may check them out from the library for six months at a time. They will be evaluated every six months to help determine whether the magnifier is still useful or whether a stronger magnifier should be selected.
The program is free but seating is limited to five people who reside in Danville. One space remains for the May 12 evaluation, but another screening will be held in the fall. For more information about the requirements or to sign up for this program, call the library’s Outreach Department at 477-5227.
The library is located at 319 N. Vermilion Street. It is open Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The library’s website is www.danville.lib.il.us. Anyone may use the library’s materials and services in the building without a library card. Persons wishing to borrow library materials must obtain a library card. The library honors cards from all Illinois public libraries.
