The Mahomet Library project will be under way with a groundbreaking ceremony set for 1 p.m. Saturday. The library staff and board of trustees are inviting all Mahomet residents to bring shovels to the new library site, east of Sandy Ridge Subdivision on U.S. 150. The Mahomet-Seymour Junior High School choir will perform at 1:15 p.m., and former Gov. Jim Edgar will give a keynote address at 1:25 p.m. Refreshments will follow the ceremony. The current public library will close during the ceremony, so staff members can attend.

The Danville Public Library Book Club will discuss Jane Austen’s classic novel “Pride and Prejudice” at its monthly meeting on Thursday, May 28, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the second floor Conference Room of the library. New readers are always welcome.
Copies of the book may be borrowed through the library’s interlibrary loan service for free or may be purchased at the Checkout Desk of the library through an arrangement with the Village Mall Waldenbooks.

The Danville Public Library continues its “Great Books to Great Films” series on Monday, June 8 at 6:30 p.m. with a free showing of the film Pride & Prejudice in the first floor meeting room.
Jane Austen's classic 1813 comedy of manners about five husband-hunting sisters in England has been adapted for the movies several times, most recently in 2005, the version being shown. The film stars Keira Knightley, Matthew Macfadyen, Brenda Blethyn, and Donald Sutherland.

The theme of the mural is literacy and the importance of free access to information in our democracy. Twenty three different students in painting and drawing class worked on the project with muralist Glen Davies. Librarian Cynthia Helms created the following slide show of images featuring some of the students who collaborated with the Artist to create an amazing six-panel mural for the library.
The mural was funded by: The Illinois Arts Council, Tepper Arts Endowment, Centennial PTSA and The Class of 2009.
“Muskie Attack: An Up North Adventure” is a new fiction title by G. M. Moore, a former editor at the Danville Commercial-News and a Danville High School graduate. The fast-paced action-adventure novel targets juvenile boys ages 9 – 12 and is perfect for the reluctant reader.
