Dip your toes into new technologies through the Champaign Public Library’s
“Tech Talks” series, free programs designed to demystify new gadgets and Web resources in a friendly atmosphere where novices are welcome. Each presentation lasts just one hour, with time for individual questions afterward.
The summer season starts on Tuesday, June 2, at 10 a.m., with an introduction to Shelfari, a free online resource for creating a “virtual bookshelf” to track your reading and share with friends. On Thursday, June 18, at 7 p.m., learn how to create a music library and load it onto an iPod.
Downloadable audiobooks are the topic on Tuesday, July 7, at 10 a.m. Available free through the library, they can be transferred to a CD or portable device.
Crafters who make handmade items * and shoppers who like to acquire them * can learn about Etsy, the online craft marketplace, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 23. Tips for using the library catalog and keeping track of due dates are on tap for Tuesday, August 4, at 10 a.m. On Thursday, August 27, at 7 p.m., learn how to use Skype to make free phone calls worldwide.
All “Tech Talks” will be held at the Champaign Public Library, located at 200 W. Green St. The June 2 event is in the Busey Bank Computer Room; all others are in Robeson Pavilion Room C.
