| What is unique about your library?
|
| We are a combined school and public library. We serve the Central CUSD #4 middle school and high school as well as the public. |
| What are the primary goals and objectives of your library? |
| Our goal is to teach students to become intelligent consumers of information by providing library services that will support and enrich the curriculum and will stimulate growth in factual knowledge, literary appreciation, aesthetic values and ethical standards. We strive to promote a lifelong interest and pleasure in recreational reading as well as encouraging a continued search for knowledge for all of our patrons. |
| What cooperative efforts are you currently doing? |
| We are a center for community life and learning and offer patrons of all ages free and open access to information resources, programs, technology, and a meeting space to support a broad range of educational and leisure interests. The library plays an important role in student
achievement by providing essential materials and technology as well as
librarians who collaborate with teachers in order to meet curricular
needs. We also share our books with the Lincoln Trail libraries. |
| Tell us a story about your library. |
| We just had a terrific summer reading program, with over 100 children attending. They were eager to hear stories read and complete different craft projects. The Tween group made some awesome paper mache animals and had a lot of fun during a sleep-over in the library. The program ended with a trip to Brookfield Zoo that was enjoyed by all the children and their families. |
| If money were no object, what services would you add? |
| I would really like to see a Bookmobile or some kind of delivery service to help reach patrons of all ages that are unable to come into the library. I would also like to see a space in the library dedicated to our young adult patrons that would offer room for gaming, conversation and reading. |
| What is popular in your library? |
| Our patrons enjoy using the computers for Internet access. Many also like to bring in their own laptops and use the library’s WiFi service. The PlayAway books are also very popular with the students. |
| How does your library use online tools to connect to your users? |
| Our newly launched website connects the library to our patrons. It provides access to the card catalog, lists of new items in the library, a calendar of events, and our blog. Patrons also have access to our databases either in the library or at home. |
