| What is unique about your library?
|
| I don’t know if this is necessarily unique, but I am proud of the fact that our library offers hometown, personal service. I have a wonderful staff who gets to know each patron and helps them to feel at home. We almost become like extended family to our patrons. We make an effort to greet each patron by name as they come into the library. We work hard to educate and promote our services to our patrons so that their library experience is great. |
| What are the primary goals and objectives of your library? |
| Our main goal is to make sure that our patrons’ informational and recreational needs are being met. Our community is growing and changing and it is essential to us that we continue to be forward thinking and open minded in how we serve our patrons. This means that our short-term goals are always changing in order to meet the needs of the community. |
| What cooperative efforts are you currently doing? |
| We are currently working with Crisis Nursery and Parent Wonders to provide playgroups for local children. Our local daycare groups walk to the library to use the resources available to them and we will be expanding our partnership with the Savoy Rec Center to include storytimes. The park district utilizes our facility for their sports sign-ups at the library and Tolono's Best, a business organization, uses the library to hold their monthly meetings. We are also teamed up with the Tolono Historical Society to continue to expand the Archives Room at the library. We are continually working with OCLC and LTLS and their member libraries by sharing resources. |
| Tell us a story about your library. |
| The library used to be in a store front in downtown Tolono.
In 1997, two very generous donors and a state grant allowed us to build the
library that we have today. The new building gave us the room to expand our
collection and gave us the physical space we needed to create innovative spaces
for our departments. We are grat |
| If money were no object, what services would you add? |
|
|
| What is popular in your library? |
| The most popular collection in our library is the multimedia collection. We circulate more DVDs, music CDs, audio books and Playaways than anything else. Our multimedia collection has grown to almost 6,000 items. We are always seeking the input of patrons, which helps us to stay popular. |
| How does your library use online tools to connect to your users? |
| We use our website as a way to stay connected to our patrons and to give them information as we get it. Whenever we add or enhance a service, we make sure the website is updated so that our patrons will know about it before coming into the library. On our website, our patrons can find out what new books have come in, sign up for one of 31 e-newsletters, or they can check the calendar for events and even import them to their Google or Yahoo calendars. We subscribe to the A-Z Maps database and Wilson Select Plus, and our patrons can use My Media Mall. We also send out a monthly newsletter by email to make sure our patrons know what is going on in the library. |
