"Magazine Clearance Sale" Starts January 2 at Champaign Library

Load up on older issues of magazines for just 10 cents each at a "Magazine Clearance Sale" during weekends in January at the Champaign Public Library. This annual event promotes recycling and benefits the library.
       
The magazines, most dating from 2008, are copies of the most popular titles among the 400-plus that the library offers. They will be sold to the public in the FriendShop, the Friends of the Champaign Public Library's used book store, located on the lower level of the library at 200 W. Green St. 
       
Starting in January, the shop has new hours, open on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:30 to 4:30 pm. The "Magazine Clearance" will start the weekend of January 2 and continue for several weekends, or until everything is sold. Shoppers are encouraged to go early for the best selection and take along a box or bag for easy toting.

SJO Library Needs Old Yearbooks

Katherine Fell, librarian at St. Joseph-Ogden High School, needs help. She would like to have a copy of every yearbook for SJO High School and its predecessors (Saint Joseph High School and Ogden High School). The yearbooks will be kept in the school library as an archive of the schools history. Katherine needs yearbooks from Saint Joseph; anything before 1941, 1942-44, 1950-54, 1960-63, and Ogden High School, all years except 1661-63. From SJO High School Katherine needs; 1964-66, 1968-69, 1973, 1977, 1983, 1990, and 1996. For information or to donate a yearbook please email: kfell@sjo.k12.il.us

Kids - Read Down your Library Fines!

Hey, Kids!  Anyone 18 years of age or under may come to Marshall Public Library from January 4th-30th, and “read down” their late materials fines.  This is a great way to have your library borrowing record cleared so you can check out materials again. Just come to the library and sign in at the circulation desk.  You must actively read in the library where the staff can see you. For every 15 minutes you read silently in the library, you will have your fine reduced by $1.00.  Lost materials charges are not eligible for this program.

Danville Library Offers Exhibit of Nutcrackers

The Danville Public Library’s collection of carved Nutcrackers is on display on the first and second floors through the holiday season.  The collection of 29 Nutcrackers of various sizes was recently donated to the library by Wanda Culp and her daughter Carmen Culp Reed.  A 6’2” nutcracker, named Wolfgang, was donated to the library by Sara Snyder.

Two successful library programs

Dennis Reedy of the Ministerial Alliance Food and Clothing Center and Alissa Tipton are seen with some of the non-perishable food items collected by Marshall Public Library through their annual Food for Fines program in November.  The food was donated to the center to benefit needy families in the community and $615 in patron library fines was waived in exchange for the food.

Free Computer Classes at Marshall Public Library

Marshall Public Library, 612 Archer Avenue, Marshall, has scheduled free computer classes for the first quarter of 2010.

Because of space limitations, persons interested in attending a class are asked to come to the library and pay a $10 cash deposit to reserve a place in each of the classes.  The deposit will be returned when the class is attended.  Deposits may be refunded if cancellations are made three or more days in advance.  Please call the library at (217) 826-2535 for more information.
