| What is unique about your library?
|
We have a very unique book club. It is a monthly book club
that started about 3 or 4 years ago. It started like most book clubs, where one
book is picked, everyone reads it, and then meet to discuss, but it wasn’t
working out for us. We tried some different things and now, everyone reads
whatever book they choose, and we come together and discuss. First, everyone
gives a quick report on what his or her book was about. Its very interesting to
see how different genres can produce the same themes, or what discussion comes
up from the different books. |
| What are the primary goals and objectives of your library? |
| Our main goal is to serve our patrons’ recreational and informational needs. Right now we are putting a lot of emphasis on our children’s programming. Our children’s librarian currently has 3 different groups of preschoolers coming to the library each week. During the summer, the summer reading program is one of the most popular programs. |
| What cooperative efforts are you currently doing? |
We belong to a cooperative that circulates large print materials. Every 2 months we get new large print titles. We use LTLS interlibrary loan tremendously. This became very easy for our patrons to use after we automated, and now many patrons use the service from home. |
| Tell us a story about your library. |
Last month the library hosted he kick-off celebration for
the holiday festivities. Ten percent of the population came to the library. We
had 10 different stations where kids could make ornaments. The mayor came and
gave a speech. We had caroling. This kick-off used to be held in the middle of
the 4-way stop in downtown, where the Christmas tree would be decorated. It had
to be moved, because every year someone would hit the tree. It was moved to
behind the library, and so we get to participate more and help protect the
tree. It is great because it puts the library in the center of the community
for one day and reminds people that we are here. |
| If money were no object, what services would you add? |
|
|
| What is popular in your library? |
| The most popular items are DVDs and movies. This is what many people come in to check out. |
| How does your library use online tools to connect to your users? |
| We have a website for our patrons to access. They can email the library if they have questions or need information. We had a blog, but it was not utilized so we have decided not to continue. |
