| What is unique about your library?
|
We have a very large religion collection. This is unique
compared to other high schools, but I feel that it really serves the community
as well. Many of the books that are loaned out through LTLS are from the 200s.
|
| What are the primary goals and objectives of your library? |
This past year, the library’s
hours were reduced. My main goal right now is to get those hours back. If I can
be more available to the students, and interact with them more, it will be
easier for me to purchase materials for the library. Right now, the budget is
very tight, and there are limited resources for collection development, so I
have to seek money in other ways. Thanks to the Parent Association, I received
money to enhance the collection in heavily used areas.
|
| What cooperative efforts are you currently doing? |
I work with the teachers so that I know what they are
teaching. I then try to keep up with articles and information I find and send
it to them. They make sure that I have their curriculum, and I make sure to
gather the information for the students before they need it. My students rely
heavily on LTLS for interlibrary loan because our collection is so small. I also
have two students who work in the library and help me out with basic library
work.
|
| Tell us a story about your library. |
Often the students will donate the novels they’ve had to
purchase for class to the library. I take these books and put them in a special
section of the library. Any student can then use those books in the library, or
take them with them. It’s not part of the check out system. This is a good way
for us to recycle books, as well as help students get used books they need for
class.
|
| If money were no object, what services would you add? |
|
|
| What is popular in your library? |
For a while, it was the Twilight series, but that has kind
of died off. Some of the teachers do book talks in class, and then students
will come to the library looking for those books. I also try to make displays
of books I think the kids have overlooked. The actual library space is very popular.
There are meetings held in the library before school, classes visit during
school, students come in on their study periods, and we are open after school
for studying as well.
|
| How does your library use online tools to connect to your users? |
We are relying on Wilson Select Plus, because the budget
has cut out all of the other databases. Facebook and other social media sites
are not to be used in the library, so I don’t have accounts there.
