Local artist Amy Chrisman presented a 12” x 16” artist’s proof of a giclee print of Danville High School to Danville Public Library at the April 19 meeting of the Library’s Board of Trustees. The print is the seventh in Chrisman’s “Vermilion County Landmarks” series of local historic buildings. In addition to honoring local landmarks, Chrisman’s prints help to raise funds for the organizations that oversee the buildings. Prints and note cards are available from each of the organizations and at the Stage Presents gift shop located in the Fischer Theatre on Vermilion Street in Downtown Danville. Through Chrisman’s previous donations, the Library owns artist’s proofs of the entire series: Lamon House, Masonic Temple, Kathryn Randolph Theater, Danville Stadium, First Presbyterian Church, and the Fischer Theatre. Pictured are Amy Chrisman (left) and Danville Public Library Board President Bill Satterwhite.

The Danville Public Library Children’s Department invites kids to show off their hair styling skills at its “May Day Hair Event” on Saturday, May 1, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The event will be held in the first floor Meeting Room of the library. It is co-sponsored by Green Meadows Library, Danville School District #118, and Danville Mass Transit.
The event will feature a braids-beads-bows parade and “silver beauty” hair. There will be a “Kids’ Moments” presentation, puppets, crafts and music. The event will include tips on good and acceptable behavior, manners, and respect for others. Kids wishing to show off their braids and hairstyles should sign up in the Children’s Department of the Library.
The Danville Library Foundation is offering the community a unique opportunity to honor their mothers on Mother’s Day. According to Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, Hodding Carter, “There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One is roots; the other is wings.”
Throughout the history of civilization, mothers have been instrumental in giving their children both roots and wings. Literacy is one of the many avenues that have enriched the learning of our area children and provided them the wings they needed to soar in life.
For each contribution to the Danville Library Foundation in a Mother’s name, the Foundation will send the special person a Mother’s Day card from the Library thanking her for her dedication. Contributors are invited to include a paragraph telling how the Mother honored impacted their life or the life of another. These stories may be shared in future Library newsletters.
Mother’s Day contribution forms are available at the Library Check-out Desk or by calling Cathy Reardon at 217-477-5220. The deadline for submission is May 1, 2010.
John Tarble of Marshall has been watching and riding trains for 35 years. He enjoys photographing trains and is an avid collector of model trains. Last year, he attended Steam Locomotive Engineer School in New Mexico.
Tarble will present a program about trains and models trains at Marshall Public Library on Saturday, May 8th, beginning at 10:30 AM in the library’s Dale McConchie Meeting Room. All ages will enjoy hearing about his experiences. See examples of different model train scales and even "live steam" locomotive models that work like the real ones. Children are invited to enjoy a train craft after the program.
This program is free and open to the public. Please call the library at 217-826-2535 to let us know if you plan to attend. The library is handicapped accessible; however, if special arrangements are needed, please allow 48 hours notice.

through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
"These
projects help rural communities build and upgrade essential
infrastructure and demonstrate President Obama's continued efforts to
improve the quality of life for rural residents throughout the
country," Vilsack said. "We are seeing towns and communities across
America receive significant benefits through the Recovery Act, even as
these projects are putting countless people back to work."
The
