Based on a 1992 novel by P.D. James, Children of Men is set in a totalitarian England of the near future -- a world where women are sterile and the last generation to be born is now adult. In this bleak setting, a bureaucrat becomes involved with a resistance group harboring a girl who has miraculously become pregnant, and who may hold the key to survival for the human race. The movie stars Clive Owen, Julianne Moore, Michael Caine, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and was directed by Alfonso Cuaron. The film is rated R.
The screening is free and open to the public, and no registration is required. Copies of the book may be borrowed from the library for free or may be purchased at the Checkout Desk through an arrangement with Blue Kangaroo Books.
The screening is the twelfth and final in the library’s year-long book-to-film series. Each month, participants have read a classic novel and viewed a film adaptation of that book, with informal discussion following the movies facilitated by library staff. The series was made possible by a grant from the Danville Library Foundation.
