“Abraham Lincoln: Self-Made in America” features reproduction artifacts from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum
A world-class traveling exhibit featuring reproduction artifacts from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois is coming to Marshall Public Library in Marshall, Illinois, from September 7th through 20th, 2010. The public may view the exhibit free of charge.
“Abraham Lincoln: Self-Made in America” was created to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of America’s greatest president by the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. The “We, the People” program of the National Endowment for the Humanities, a federal agency, provided major financial support for the exhibition and accompanying programs. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library Foundation and the History Channel provided additional financial and in-kind support.
We are looking for volunteers to drive authors to school visits on Thursday, October 7th and Friday, October 8th as part of The 2010 Youth Literature Festival sponsored by The University of Illinois Department of Education. Driver hosts will accompany authors to schools in Champaign, Urbana, and surrounding communities. We need hosts for about 11 authors each day. This is a great opportunity to meet children’s authors and help us connect them with students in our area.
If you are available on Saturday, October 9th there are opportunities to accompany authors during the community day at the Krannert Theater where they will also appear. See the website at www. If you are interested please contact Barb Lintner at barblintner@gmail.com For details on the Festival see the website at http://youthlitfest.education.illinois.edu/
Mission:The Illinois State Water Survey is the primary
agency in Illinois for research and information on surface water, groundwater,
and the atmosphere. Its mission is to characterize and evaluate the quality,
quantity, and use of these resources. The mission is achieved through basic and
applied research; by collecting, analyzing, archiving, and disseminating
objective scientific and engineering data and information; and through service,
education, and outreach programs. This information provides a sound technical
basis for the citizens and policymakers of Illinois and the nation to make wise
social, economic, and environmental decisions.
The art created by William Hubschmitt reaches as far back into history as ancient Greece but uses state of the art computer technology. How Hubschmitt interweaves this knowledge of art history and software programs into his creative process can be seen in the exhibition currently on view at Eastern Illinois University’s Tarble Arts Center.
William Hubschmitt: A Retrospective Exhibition presents seventy color digital prints and is on display through September 25. Three computer-based presentations show how some of the artworks were created. And a documentary on Hubschmitt’s art, created with the exhibition’s curator, Robert Petersen, is being shown in the Tarble’s eGallery.

The Danville Public Library continues its six-month “Movies about Movies” film discussion series with a free screening of the 1941 comedy Sullivan’s Travels on August 9 at 6:30 p.m. in the first floor meeting room.
A top Hollywood director takes to the road as a hobo to learn how the common man lives in writer-director Preston Sturges' slapstick-satire. Sturges was at the height of his illustrious career when he made this movie, which stars Joel McCrea, Veronica Lake, Robert Warwick, and William Demarest.
The “Movies about Movies” series explores the ways filmmakers have portrayed their own profession on screen, from the comedic to the dramatic. On the second Monday evening of each month through October, participants screen a movie and have an informal discussion afterward facilitated by library staff. The series is made possible by a grant from the Danville Library Foundation.
For more information or to view a full schedule of the films, visit the series website at www.danville.lib.il.us/movies.htm, or contact the Audiovisual Department at 477-5224. Persons wishing to borrow library materials must obtain a library card. The library honors cards from all Illinois public libraries.
