Thanks to the generosity of many loyal donors to the Danville Library Foundation, the Library’s First Floor Meeting Room will now have Blu-ray high definition video and a 7.1 channel surround sound system. Installation of the equipment upgrade by Bud’s Electronics is currently underway and the project slated to be completed by early to mid-October. The new technology will replace the 15-year-old communications infrastructure that has been in operation since the new library building opened in 1995. Donations made to the Library Foundation helped to underwrite that technology as well. With extensive use over time, the old sound system is now experiencing repeated problems which have hindered the successful presentations of programs by the library and the community and educational groups.
The new technology will enhance all future audio-visual educational and recreational experiences that will take place in the First Floor Meeting Room. This much needed upgrade will have the potential to further enrich the lives of everyone in the community for many years to come.
Some of the groups that currently use the meeting room include, the Readers’ Route, local book and Scrabble clubs, coin clubs, the Center for Children’s Services, C.A.R.E., Crosspoint Human Services, Project Success, CRIS Center for Healthy Aging, City and State groups and agencies, Carle Clinic’s CPR and First Aid classes, garden clubs, quilter groups, genealogical societies, Crime-stoppers, Kickapoo Karvers, Money Minders, Bible study groups, support groups for MS and Scleraderma, and Danville Area Community College groups. Additionally, this room is used to host book signings, used book sales and other functions of the Library and the Library Foundation.
Use of the library’s meeting rooms during library hours are free to non-profit groups. For-profit groups may reserve a room for a fee. For more information about use of a meeting room, contact the Danville Public Library’s Business Office at 217-422-5220.
