Over 1,000 Danville students, grades 1 through 4, from both public and parochial schools will be visiting the Danville Public Library October 25th - 29th as part of the Books Aloud @ Your Library program.
The Books Aloud program is sponsored by the Danville Library Foundation in partnership with the Danville Public Library, Danville School District # 118, Danville High School ACE House, Vermilion Advantage, the John P. Cadle Foundation, the Family of Karen Martin Harding, and many retired teachers, school administrators and community members who share the love of reading.
Over the course of the week, 1st and 4th grade students will be bussed to the Library where the children will either be read to by a community guest reader, or watch a reader’s theater presentation by Danville High School students. The students will also participate in a reading related craft activity, be given an age appropriate tour of the library, and receive a free book to take home to enjoy with their families.
“Reading is the basis for all learning, and libraries are magical places were dreams begin. It is our desire that every child has a library card and visits the library regularly”, says Cathy Reardon, Executive Director of the Danville Library Foundation. The Books Aloud @ Your Library is only one of the more than 550 children’s programs the library offers each year.
