Welcome to Lincoln Trail Libraries System and the Symposium
On behalf of the LTLS Board of Directors and staff of LTLS we are very pleased that you joined us for this opportunity to explore the future of Integrated Library Systems. The conference program is packed with speakers who are experts on the topic and who will challenge you to consider different perspectives. In the recent past there has been a lot of discussion about the OPAC and what the future is for that tool. The topics of this Symposium go beyond the catalog to the basics of library operation. Roy Tennant in his Digital Libraries Blog for Library Journal said
“No matter what I think about library catalogs focused exclusively on the holdings of one building or even a group of buildings, there is still very much a future for integrated library systems of one sort or another.
Libraries must still acquire, organize, and circulate materials and the integrated library system is what performs those tasks. I think it's an open question how "integrated" such systems will be in the future, and I also think that many libraries in the future will not have a system so much as a service.”
Your participation will make this Symposium a success. We have tried to build in time for questions and some opportunity for networking. Enjoy the conference and we are glad you are here.
