The Sherrard (Illinois) Public Library District offers an opportunity for a library director to lead us in acquiring funds and planning for a new facility, completing integration of the system automated catalog, working with our Friends of the Library group and expanding services throughout the District.
We seek a leader who can imagine what our library could be and will help us achieve that vision. The successful candidate will be creative and energetic, excel at building partnerships, articulating and promoting the library’s mission, and empowering staff. We require a director who can positively communicate and engage the community, area agencies, trustees and staff.
Located 12 miles south of the Quad Cities, the Sherrard Public Library District serves a population of 7,288 in a district of 88 square miles. Sherrard offers the best of both worlds: a vibrant urban setting nearby with culture, shopping and city advantages as well as a beautiful rural landscape, new home of the Fyre Lake National with a Nicklaus Design golf course. The library, located in the village of Sherrard, has a collection of over 18,000 items, and an annual circulation of 22,000. The staff consists of 5 employees and the library’s annual revenues exceed $260,000.
Minimum Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited library education program or evidence that the candidate is working toward that degree. Professional public library experience with demonstrated management ability in administration, budgeting, planning, fundraising, and supervision is required. The successful candidate will have a strong philosophy of customer service, and proven ability to apply technology to library systems and services.
Salary: $45,000 to $50,000, depending on qualifications.
