WebReporter access

More and more libraries are using WebReporter and its various 150+ reports.  Although we are pleased to see the increase in use, much of the use is occurring during the middle of the day when many staff are logged in and doing multiple Horizon processes as well.  This additional load from WebReporter causes Horizon to slow down.  Therefore, we are limiting use of WebReporter so it will not be available from 10 am to 3 pm.  This restriction will only apply to weekdays, Monday through Friday.

We encourage you to set up WebReporter subscriptions for your reports.  These subscriptions can run at 5 or 6 am and be ready and waiting for you to view.  Running reports early in the morning means much less impact on Horizon and faster-processing for those reports.

If you do not know how to set up a subscription on WebReporter, please email Pat Boze, pboze@lincolntrail.info.

Overdrive Digital Bookmobile at Champaign Public Library

Overdrive, the vendor for MyMediaMall, is bringing its Digital Bookmobile to Champaign Public Library on Friday, July 17, from noon to 6 pm. The Digital Bookmobile is a community outreach vehicle that is used to promote downloadable eBooks, audiobooks, music, and video. Developed inside a 74-foot, 18-wheel tractor-trailer, the nationally touring vehicle is a high-tech update of the traditional bookmobile that has served communities for decades.

The Digital Bookmobile creates an engaging download experience around the host library's digital media collection and 'Virtual Branch' download website. The vehicle is equipped with broadband Internet-connected PCs, high-definition monitors, premium sound systems, and a variety of portable media players. Interactive computer stations give visitors an opportunity to search the digital media collection, use supported mobile devices, and sample eBooks, audiobooks, music, and video from the library.

Be sure to visit this interesting library-on-wheels!

OCLC Annual Contract

For all automated non-cataloging center libraries:

In this year's OCLC contract, they have included a survey.

The survey asks questions about using Connexion, CatExpress, and the batchloading process.  Since LTLS sets your holdings during the batchloading process, you can ignore the top portion of the survey.  You can answer the bottom half about Resource Sharing.

Thanks!  Donna

Patron self-registration

Are you interested in letting your new patrons do their own self-registration on your LINCPac profile?  Self-registration means that a short borrower is created in Horizon, and staff can then locate this record and approve based on validation requirements of the library.  This cuts down on staff doing hand-entry of name, address, city, phone, and email - the patron does it instead.

If interested, the LTLS automation department can set this up for you.  Your library will need to create a 'self-registration' borrower type, but that's all it takes.  For more information, send an email to Pat Boze, pboze@lincolntrail.info.

Adding items error message

Since the upgrade, libraries have reported some instances of an error message when adding a new item.  This happens when the staff member needs to correct one of the newly-entered fields.  For example, if you entered a collection code and found it was wrong, then changed it to the correct code, the error message displays when trying to save the new item.   The error message starts with this statement: "The column po# in table po_line_item does not allow null values.....".

This is a 'bug' that has been identified by SirsiDynix for a future fix. Until then, there is a workaround.  We are advised by SirsiDynix that if the staff member presses the <ctrl><s> keys together to save the record, this should allow the item to be saved without the error message.
