Despite several requests that libraries return their cataloging bags in a timely manner, the LTLS Cataloging Center is experiencing ever-increasing shortages. For the first time ever, we are having to use delivery bags to return cataloged materials to their owning libraries and, if the shortage continues, we may have to resort to mixing interlibrary loan and reciprocal borrowing materials with materials that have been cataloged, a measure that will create extra work for catalogers, delivery staff and owning-library staff alike and may have some effect on the speed with which we are able to return cataloged materials.
We could, of course, purchase additional cataloging bags, but this would not change things if libraries continued to keep Cataloging Center bags rather than returning them.
Please renew your efforts to return Cataloging Center bags (those with blue bottoms) as soon as possible. Only then can we realistically determine whether or not we need to purchase new Cataloging Center containers.
