In order to return materials to you as soon as possible, it has long been our practice to supply set records for sets of CDs, videos, etc. sent to us for cataloging by our member libraries, unless an individual library requests that we supply individual bibliographic records for each item in a set.
In the interest of returning materials as soon as possible there have been times in the past year when we have encouraged use of a set record, not realizing that, while parts of a set can be circulated individually from a set record with no probem, it is no longer possible for users to place holds on individual parts of a set without the help of library staff unless each part has its own bibliographic record.
This being the case, we will from now on consistently supply libraries with individual bibliographic records for each part of a set whenever you let us know that you plan to circulate the parts individually by attaching a note to that effect to the set in question.
Given that the inability to place holds without library staff assistance extends to items/copies attached to serial records, please let us know if you would prefer monographic records for such things as travel guides, annual recipe collections, etc. for which we normally supply serial records. We will, of course continue to supply serial records for all serials that are published multiple times per year.
