Plan Ahead When Replacing Computers

The wrong IP address means no connection to the Horizon. If you are planning on replacing computers be sure the new computer is assigned the same static (dynamic won’t  work) IP address as the old computer.

The wrong IP address problem is more common in schools because IT personnel will come in during summer vacation to do their changing and updating.  If  you are planning a change, be sure whoever is doing it knows the importance of the IP address. It will save time and avoid confusion later.

 

If you are wondering if your computer will run Polaris, see Specs 1. If you are thinking of getting a new system  look at Specs2.

Specs 1 (machine exists today, and you just need to know if it will run the new system)

Minimum AMD or Pentium 4, single core processor running at 2.0 GHz, or newer.

Minimum 1 GB RAM.

Minimum 250GB Harddrive, with 50GB free.  (just a guess here, but I guess high)

Receipt printers should be compatible with 64-bit Windows.  (more on this when we know more about the vendor)

Monitor that will support 1024x768 resolution

 

Specs 2 (purchasing a new machine) spec’ed to last 3-5 years

Minimum AMD or Pentium Dual Core Processor (i5 equiv) or better.

Minimum 4GB RAM

Minimum 500GB Harddrive, with 150GB free.

Monitor that will support at least 1024x768 resolution. 

Create Item Report

Under the circulation menu, the Create Item Report feature has a different set of indexes after the upgrade.  The indexes are currently the indexes available in the Group Item Editor. 

We have currently lost the ability to search by Borrower Location and to add the Usage (No. of CKOs) to the list. Other indexes may be affected as well.

This issue will be reported to Sirsi/Dynix on Monday.

Incorrect Building Codes on Bands - Only Handwritten

LTLS has noticed within the past several days, that Building Codes are not being entered correctly on some handwritten delivery bands.

What we are seeing is that instead of the correct Building Code, the Call Number for the item is being put on the bands. 

Here's an example:

The item should have been sent to MAN but instead on the delivery band it says, "YA/LAW".  This was the call number for this particular item.

Obviously, this delays the items delivery since the driver's cannot sort based on the call number.

Please note that with the upgrade the Check In window appears to wrap differently.  The Building Code is the last column in the entry for the item. 

The wrapping is dependent upon how large your font size is, whether or not you toggle the navigation bar off, or whether or not you move the slide bar to give your CKI window more space.  This all can affect how many lines are in the wrapping of the title.

Optional Element for Horizon 7.4

There is a new "twist" to the next version of Horizon (7.4). They are going to incorporate sound alerts  and I believe they are going to allow for libraries to import  whatever sounds they wish -- for example, if they checkin an item that has been "lost", the workstation could play the theme song to "The Twilight Zone", etc., etc. Therefore, if libraries want to use the new feature, they will need a PC with an internal sound card and either monitor speakers or external speakers.

1. Let us know when your email changes. Send email to ltls@lincolntrail.info with your full name, Agency and old email address. Put Change Email Address in subject.

2. Notify us when a user leaves your staff.
You can simply send email to ltls@lincolntrail.info with their name and Agency and Remove User as the subject

or go to
LINC Forms Page and choose Staff Removal Form and follow the directions to run the User List Report in WebReporter.
Then let us know who is in the report who shouldn't be.
You can copy the names and paste them into the Removal Form.

3. If your system's firewall blocks email ( this is common in schools), ask your tech support people to allow mail from us.

Social Security Numbers deleted

LTLS staff has finished the process of deleting all social security numbers in LINC borrower records. The social security number data field has also been removed from the borrower record so new numbers cannot be added. Over 57,000 social security numbers were deleted in this process. This did not affect any other borrower data.

Lost Item Payment Form

A New Lost Item Payment .pdf form has been placed on the automation web page.
It can be used in different ways depending on your needs.
You can print it and enter the data manually.
You can enter the data in the form and then print it.
If you want a copy of the data, after entering the information in the top half press the Copy Information button and the bottom half will fill in automatically.

Depending on your access rights you could save a copy to your computer for use at any time.

Additional T-1 lines at LTLS installed

LTLS has installed two additional T-1 lines in the last month, making a total of 3 T-1 lines available for network connectivity.
