Illinois Family Literacy Conference

The Illinois Family Literacy Conference will be held May 22 - 23, 2007 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield, Illinois. This conference is organized by the Illinois Literacy Resource Development Center (ILRDC) in Champaign, IL and sponsored by the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois Community College Board, the Illinois State Library Literacy Office, and the Illinois Department of Human Services. Through Deaf Eyes

A PBS film documentary "Through Deaf Eyes" is showing Wednesday, March 21 at 9:00 ET. Filmmakers say this documentary is the first comprehensive film on deaf history. Karen Kenton, the film's executive producer, said "We wanted to broaden people's concept of what is normal." "There's (not just) one way of being deaf." The film tells a variety of stories and touches some of the most fundamental issues, facing the deaf community, including how technology contributed to social change for deaf people and the arguments on how deaf children should be educated.

Information Literacy Summit

The sixth annual Information Literacy Summit, “Working Together for Lifelong Learning,” will be held at Illinois Central College (East Peoria) on April 3, Moraine Valley Community College (Palos Hills) on April 19, and John A. Logan College (Carterville) on April 24. Librarians and instructors from colleges, universities, high schools, and middle schools are invited to participate. Others who are interested in information literacy at these levels are also encouraged to attend. A registration fee of $15 covers materials, continental breakfast, and lunch.
