Veteran's History Project Update

The Illinois State Library is pleased to report that 1,500 Patriot Information Forms have now been received at the Illinois State Archives for Secretary of State Jesse White's Veterans History Project to permanently preserve the memories of Illinois war veterans. The number of forms submitted has increased since the forms became available late last year at Illinois public libraries.

To make it easier for patrons to locate these forms, Secretary White will soon be sending public libraries a colorful poster to display along with the forms. If you need additional copies of the Patriot Information Forms, you may print out your own copies by logging on to http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/publications/pdf_publications/ard1383.pdf. You may also obtain additional forms by contacting Pat McGuckin at the Illinois State Library at pmcguckin@ilsos.net.

In the near future, the Veterans History Project will be expanding to include audio taped interviews, and we've heard from many librarians who have said they would love to conduct such interviews with veterans as part of their patron outreach programs. We're pleased to announce that we have arranged for an official with the Library of Congress to conduct a training session on doing such interviews as a pre-conference event at this year's Illinois Library Association annual conference in Springfield. Mark your calendar now for the training session, which will be held on October 9th from 1:30 to 5 p.m. More details later!
