NEH Announces New Grant Program to Support Digital Research and Training

The National Endowment for the Humanities' Digital Humanities Initiative has announced Institutes for Advanced Topics in the Digital Humanities, a new grant program to support national or regional (multi-state) research and training programs on approaches in humanities computing.

Institutes for Advanced Topics in the Digital Humanities may be hosted by colleges, universities, learned societies, centers for advanced study, libraries or other repositories, and cultural or professional organizations. Possible topics and areas to be addressed might include: text encoding, electronic editing, and publishing; e-literature; textual analysis and text mining; immersive and virtual environments in multimedia research; 3-D imaging technology, including laser scanning; creativity, culture, and computing; digital image design; information aesthetics; computer gaming and the humanities; high performance or supercomputing and the humanities; and advanced Geographic Information Systems applications. Awards normally range from one to three years and from $50,000 to a maximum of $250,000 each. Visit the NEH Web site for complete program information. Deadline is April 9, 2008.

Entertainment Software Association Foundation Offers Funding for Youth Programs

The Entertainment Software Association Foundation is dedicated to supporting positive programs and opportunities that make a difference in the quality of life, health, and welfare of youth. To receive funding, an organization making a grant request must meet the following criteria: be tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code; seek funding for a specific project or program that is or will be in two or more states and serves youth between the ages of 7 and 18; and provide youth programs in one or more of the following areas: skills & personal development; general health & welfare; risk behavior prevention; education; and multimedia arts/technology related or applied. Traveling Exhibit

Since 1997, the Gilder Lehrman Institute has developed traveling panel exhibitions for display at schools, libraries, and historic sites.

Composed of interlocking panels with graphic reproductions of rare documents, images, and interpretive text, these exhibitions circulate nationwide, providing an introduction to critical topics in American history for students, teachers, and the public. Traveling exhibitions are FREE OF CHARGE (shipping included).

The Institute is pleased to offer a new traveling exhibition, Abraham Lincoln: A Man of His Time, A Man for All Times. The exhibition, which incorporates letters, photographs, and images from Lincoln’s presidency and Civil War soldiers and their families, is available to academic and public libraries only. Storage System Available Free

Bartlett Public Library District, Bartlett, Illinois, wants to give away a 1988 Spacesaver High Density Storage System (model EC300) purchased from Bradford Systems Corporation. The system includes:

1, 1-sided shelf (wall-mounted) 16”d X 8’h (includes raised floor w/tracks) X 18’long
3, 2-sided movable shelves, 30”d X 8’h (includes raised floor w/tracks) X 18’long
1, 1-sided shelf (wall-mounted), 15”d X 8’h (at highest point, shelf height varies) X 20’ long (Note: These shelves are not integral to the system, only the control unit that is mounted to the shelf top.)

Power Override Battery Pack
