2008 is the Sesquicentennial of the Lincoln Douglas Debates. The seven Illinois communities in which the historic debates took place (plus Springfield and Bement) have been planning a celebration of the historic debates of 1858 which include a Lincoln and Douglas Reunion Tour, the creation of a collector’s coin set, a promotional brochure and web site, and a traveling exhibit.
Seven identical Lincoln-Douglas Traveling Exhibits have been created and Lincoln Trail Libraries System has been selected to receive one exhibit to be available for display in LTLS communities from now until the end of the year. LTLS libraries are invited to request the exhibit for your community.

The Graduate School of Library and Information Science (GSLIS) at the University of Illinois seeks nominations for the Robert B. Downs Intellectual Freedom Award. The deadline for nominations is October 15, 2008. Given annually, the award acknowledges individuals or groups who have furthered the cause of intellectual freedom, particularly as it impacts libraries and information centers and the dissemination of ideas.
