Cataloging Class Offered

Several libraries have requested a specialized cataloging class for Nintendo games, Wii, computer games. Nanette Donohue from the Champaign Public Library has agreed to teach an on-line workshop via the WebJunction Wimba room on Monday March 17, 2008 10-12noon. Applications Available for Library Institutes

Applications are available on the Illinois State Library website for the annual Small Public Library Management Institute (SPLMI) June 1-6 and the Institute for School and Public Librarians June 8-13.

Information Literacy Summit 2008

Registration is now open for Information Literacy Summit 2008: Quality and Shared Responsibility. The Summit will explore the relationship between collaboration, sharing responsibility, the quality of instruction, and the learner's success. Dates and locations are:

April 2, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Palos Hills
April 7, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Carterville
April 8, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., East Peoria

The registration fee of $20 includes materials, continental breakfast, and lunch. Space is limited.

Staples Foundation for Learning Grants

The mission of Staples Foundation for Learning is to provide funding to programs that support or provide job skills and/or education for all people, with a special emphasis on disadvantaged youth. The organization must: 1) Have a nonprofit tax-exempt classification under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; 2) Align with Staples Foundation for Learning's mission and give focus on job skills and education. The Foundation accepts online applications only. The requested amount of each grant can be up to $25,000. Guidelines and the online application are available on the Foundation's website. Deadline is March 14 and June 16, 2008

LSTA automation grant category

The Illinois State Library has announced the next round of LSTA grants. One grant category, 'The Value of Resource Sharing,' can be used to automate a library with the regional library system automation program. In LTLS, this is with the LINC Horizon system. Read more about this grant here.

Each library agency must submit its own grant application. Also, this application requires a letter of agreement with LTLS as part of the application. If you are interested in learning more about this grant opportunity, send an email to Pat Boze, pboze@lincolntrail.info, for more information. The grant Letter of Intent is due on April 2, with the full grant due May 12.

Let’s Talk About It: Love & Forgiveness Grants

The American Library Association and the Fetzer Institute, as part of its Campaign for Love & Forgiveness, present "Let’s Talk About It: Love & Forgiveness," a scholar-led reading and discussion program for libraries interested in exploring themes of love and forgiveness in everyday life through classic and contemporary literature. Public libraries are invited to apply for grants to support the program in their community.

Successful applicants will receive $2,500 to be used to support program costs and scholar honoraria; program materials, which include introductory literature and essays on each of the themes, selections for additional reading, and template promotional materials; and training for the library project director at a national training workshop where they will hear from project scholars, experts, and organizers, and receive a program planning guide, materials and ideas. Deadline is July 15, 2008.

NEH Small Grants to Libraries - Pride and Passion: The African American Baseball Experience

The Small Grants to Libraries program brings traveling exhibitions and other types of public programming to libraries across the country. "Pride and Passion: The African American Baseball Experience" has been designated as part of the NEH’s We the People program, exploring significant events and themes in our nation’s history and culture and advancing knowledge of the principles that define America. The story of African Americans in baseball is a remarkable and fascinating slice of American history. For more information visit the NEH Web site. Deadline is April 4, 2008.
