The New York Public Library approached the comedy group Improv Everywhere about a month ago and asked if they would want to stage an Improv Everywhere mission on their property. The library is facing serious budget cuts, and they thought having the comedy group do something awesome there might serve to remind people of how great the NYPL is. The comedy group couldn’t say no to the opportunity to do something in the NYPL's gorgeous, 100 year-old Rose Main Reading Room.
About 200,000 signatures were delivered to City Hall. Whether the proposed library cuts are real or inflated, they are definitely getting attention.
