Moderators needed for the 2010 Reaching Forward South Conference

The Reaching Forward South Conference is  being  held October 7 and 8  this year and Moderators are needed for helping  the speaker with handouts. They also introduce the speaker ,evaluate speakers and make signals to the speaker about how much time they have left. The 14^th annual conference, "Spread Your Wings!", is scheduled for October 7-8, 2010, at the Northfield Inn. Information about the conference will be posted on this site, as well as the RFS Google Group. In addition,  a Google Calendar with all the scheduled sessions listed with their times and room locations.

Privacy Rights in a Digital Age - videoteleconference

Join the Director of ALA's Office for Intellectual Freedom, Barbara Jones, to learn about a new ALA initiative that invites library users into a national conversation about privacy rights in a digital age.  This session will explore how libraries can assist patrons in thinking critically and making more informed choices about their information privacy.  Choose Privacy Week, a week-long awareness campaign and celebration, will take place May 2-8, 2010, and Barbara will be showcasing some of ALA's ideas and promotional materials.

Lincoln Trail will be hosting Barbara Jones.

Storyteller Ben Rosenfield performs tales from his childhood in the hills of southern Ohio, as well as his own imagination. As a veteran teacher, school principal, and teacher trainer, Ben has emphasized
storytelling to increase student achievement in reading, writing and the literacy skills necessary for success. He is also a talented potter, and some of his merchandise will be on sale at the workshop
and concert.

E-Waste Competition Exhibit on display at ISTC

An exhibit of UIUC student e-waste designs will be located in the atrium of the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center through the end of the month. On display will be new designs created using electronic waste by students enrolled in the Art and Design/Engineering e-waste class this semester. The exhibit is open during ISTC's normal business hours (8-5 M-F). ISTC is located in the University of Illinois' Research Park on the south campus. The address is 1 Hazelwood Dr.

*Why wiki?*
Feeling overwhelmed at the prospect of creating your own website? Are you wondering how to generate easy-to-update user guides and other library tools of the trade? Or are you interested in finding ways for groups of people to collaborate on creating content? Wiki software might be just what you need.

*What's a wiki?*
Wiki software allows multiple people to create and edit web pages. Wikis typically support text, photos, graphics, video, and links, are are easy to update.

*I want a wiki!*
In this hands-on workshop, participants will set up their own wiki using Wikispaces, and will learn about how wikis can be used in libraries, schools, and other settings.

*Presenter: *
Frances Jacobson Harris is the librarian at University Laboratory High School, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is a professor of library administration at the University Library. She team teaches a required computer literacy course sequence for eighth- and ninth-grade students, which includes information literacy and Internet ethics components. Frances has presented and published on topics related to young adults, Internet ethics, and digital information. She is the author of /I Found It On the Internet: Coming of Age Online/, published by the American Library Association (2005).
