Registration open for YALSA's online courses

The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), opened registration for three online courses in Winter 2009: "Booktalks Quick and Simple" (Nancy Keane); "Boys and Books: Encouraging Early Teen and Tween Boys to Read" (Jenine Lillian) and "Power Programming for Teens" (Amy Alessio).

All of YALSA's Winter 2009 meet for four weeks. Courses begin Feb. 9. To read course descriptions, please visit www.ala.org/yalsa and click on "Online Courses."

Best Book of 2008

The Prairie Area Library System extends an opportunity to colleagues statewide to participate in creating the PALS Best Books of 2008 listing.  Contributors are asked to submit their favorite titles at the preschool/primary, intermediate and/or young adult level as well as a favorite nonfiction title through Survey Monkey.  For each book, you will need the author, title, ISBN number and if possible, a brief annotation.
Feel free to fill out any or all of the categories according to the age groups you serve.  ALL BOOKS MUST HAVE A 2008 PUBLICATION DATE.  The deadline for filling out the survey is January 23, 2009.  PALS will then compile the submissions and make them available electronically.
