Join the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), at Genre Galaxy, its full-day preconference on July 10 at the ALA’s Annual Conference, and discover how to connect to teen library users with books. Authors scheduled to appear include Holly Black (“The Spiderwick Chronicles,” “The Good Neighbors, Book One: Kin”), Cecil Castellucci (“Janes in Love,” “Beige”), David Lubar (“Sleeping Freshman Never Lie,” “True Talents”) and Dom Testa (“The Comet’s Curse”).
Attendees will focus on books that explore five genres surging in popularity with young adults: urban fiction, science fiction and fantasy, nonfiction, mysteries with horror and thrilling elements and romance that incorporates humor or sports. They will experience literacy activities and sample programs based on teen books, as well as learn tips for collection development.
This full-day preconference takes place July 10, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. Tickets cost $195 for YALSA members, $235 for ALA members, $285 for nonmembers and $195 for student and retired members.
