Barb Nolan, Director, Danville Public Library sent the following note about the library's first Videgaming Night.
"Fifty students from approximately age 10 through 19 and ten parents made Danville Public Library's first Teen Videogaming Night (Tuesday, April 3) a huge success! Most of the teens were boys – a difficult group to attract to the library. Some hadn’t been in the library before. Some hadn’t played either Dance Dance Revolution or Guitar Hero before; some were experts and brought their own guitars – and friends to compete with.
Members of our Teen Advisory Board served as emcees for the two games. Teen Services Committee members from the staff – Mike Boedicker, Sue Daugherty, Vonna Bley and me (Barb) with help from Children’s Department assistant Lisa Abdelghani -- set up the room and the refreshments, kept score, handled technical problems, handled crowd control, and referred questions about the rules to the teen members. The teens were respectful and helped each other learn how to work the guitars and dance mats. They gave us lots of good suggestions for improving the event. (They also patiently explained the intricacies of the games to us Boomers...)"
Congratuations for the success. This project was a direct outcome of a Strategic Planning Process that Joe Sciacca and I (Jan Ison) facilitated for the library last year. Great job to the DPL group.
