Continuing to expand programming at the St. Joseph Township-Swearingen Memorial Library is part of the progress eyed in 2009.
Librarian Susan McKinney said one of the programs the library is adding this year is a summer reading program for high school aged students.
Teenagers previously were included in the Adult Summer Reading Program which has grown every year.
McKinney plans on incorporating successful elements that were used in previous reading programs, including a live action game.
Last year, the library introduced a live action Candyland game, with 150-200 local children attending.
Bringing authors to the library is also part of regular programming at the library. Last summer the library had 5 local authors.
Other programing in the past has included skills such as knitting or gardening. "The hardest part is finding someone willing to teach," McKinney said.
The library would be open to anyone interested in hosting a program to teach a skill.
This winter the library has added Game Day at the library where families can play a family board game. The next Game Day at the library is at 12:30 p.m. on February 21st.
The library also continues the Preschool Story Time which is a drop-in program every other week from September to April, the Library Book Club that meets the second Monday of every month and The Junior Librarians program that allows 10 to 15 year-olds to volunteer at the library.
The library also plans to start adding Graphic novels to it's collection. For more information and an updated calendar visit: http://www.prairienet.org/sjlibrary.
