Library of Congress Subject Headings Related to Survival

Library of Congress subject headings "Survival after airplane accidents, shipwrecks, etc." and "Survival skills" have been cancelled. The subject headings "Survival", "Airplane crash survival", "Shipwreck survival" , and "Survival at sea"-- all new-- should be used instead. In addition, the following narrower terms for survival may also be used when appropriate: "Combat survival", "Desert survival","Jungle survival", and "Wilderness survival".

LTLS Delivery Changes

As the transition to the new merged southern system - Illinois Heartland Library System - begins, LTLS is changing to delivery procedures that have been adopted for the new system.  With these changes, all four southern systems will follow the same delivery procedures.  The LTLS Delivery web site explains the new procedures and route changes, as well as information about continuing procedures that are not changing.  The primary changes, which will be implemented beginning April 25, are highlighted here:

Delivery based on volume
LTLS has based delivery frequency on volume for several years.  However, the volume categories are slightly different for IHLS and have this effect:
•16 LTLS libraries will receive 1 less day per week of delivery
•1 LTLS library will receive 1 more day per week of delivery
•Alternative delivery/on request delivery will continue for 38 libraries, for up to 2 days per week.  However, LTLS may at times elect to mail to some libraries when volume is particularly low.

Community Access Terminals (CAT)
Community Access Terminal stops means one stop for all libraries in a community.  Although this will initially be voluntary, community stops are highly encouraged.  Libraries in a community must determine one library stop that will be the delivery point for all – this is usually the library with the highest volume/frequency.  Each library in a community access stop will have its own materials sorted into separate containers.  Community access stops must stay in place for an entire year.  Contact Bob Towner, btowne@lincolntrail.info, to discuss or arrange a Community Access Terminal stop for your community.

Delivery on the Go
LTLS has asked libraries to sort for down the route stops, now called Delivery on the Go, for several years.  There is no change in that procedure.  Also, libraries still need to pre-sort for other locations as well by either bundling materials together or using a complete bag for one library location.  This procedure has not changed and is outlined on the Delivery web site.

LTLS Cataloging Center Operations During April 7-8 Horizon Upgrade

The LTLS Cataloging Center will operate as usual during the Horizon software upgrade on April 7 and 8. However, cataloging  staff will not be able to import new bibliographic records into LINC until the upgrade is complete. This means that while items cataloged on April 7 and 8 will be returned via the LTLS Delivery Service as usual, the matching bibliographic records that would normally be imported into LINC on April 7 and 8 will not be accessible until Monday April 11. WorldCat Cataloging Partners (formerly PrompCat) records will also be affected.

LINC Catalog upgrade planned for April 7, 8

The LINC database and online catalog will be unavailable for most of April 7 & 8 while a major Horizon software upgrade is performed.  Library staff and patrons can search for titles using the OCLC WorldCat database (http://worldcat.org) during that timeframe.  Unfortunately, requests, renewals, patron accounts, and specific item information will be unavailable.  A message will be posted on the LINC Status Blog when the upgrade is completed.

LTLS Delivery will run as scheduled during the two day period.  

Mattoon High School Library Missing a Copy of Ariel: Genetically Yours

A copy of Haley Star Griffin's Ariel: Genetically Yours, cataloged by the LTLS Cataloging Center on Feb. 3, 2011, has not been returned to the Mattoon High School Library. If your library has received this item in error, please return it to Jim Sledge at Mattoon High School.

LTLS Closed for Presidents' Day

In observance of Presidents' Day LTLS Headquarters will be closed on Monday February 21st. The office will be closed and no delivery routes will be run.
